Mr Gerald Giam Yean Song asked the Minister for Manpower from 2016 to 2021, of the 90% of retirement and re-employment disputes that are amicably resolved through a mediation process, what is the number of cases broken down by those that (i) led to re-employment of the individuals concerned (ii) led to their transfer to another employer (iii) received the Employment Assistance Payment and (iv) subsequently withdrew their appeal.
Dr Tan See Leng: From 2016 to 2021, 60% of the retirement and re-employment disputes that were amicably resolved through the mediation process received monetary compensation. These included the Employment Assistance Payment or other forms of ex-gratia or goodwill payments. Ten percent were resolved without monetary compensation and typically involved employers providing the employee with a service testimonial. For the remainder 30% of the cases, the employees withdrew their appeals. There may be cases in which an employer separately offered a job in his company or another company, but we do not track such arrangements.
