AMOUNTS RAISED AND BREAKDOWN OF DONORS TO RARE DISEASE FUND

MP Leon Perera

Mr Leon Perera asked the Minister for Health (a) what is the total amount of donations raised by the Rare Disease Fund (RDF) in 2022; (b) what is the respective breakdown of this donation by donor type, namely, philanthropic foundations, companies, Government, NGOs, individuals and others; and (c) whether the Government will consider rolling out a strategy to obtain RDF donations from individuals through public communications, to complement the current approaches to raising donations.

Mr Ong Ye Kung: The Rare Disease Fund (RDF) raised $4.9 million in public donations in the calendar year 2022, with $2.3 million contributed by foundations, $1.3 million from companies and the remaining from individuals and others. Together with the Government’s $3-to-$1 matching grant, this brings the total funds raised by RDF in 2022 to $19.2 million.

The RDF Committee has been actively reaching out to potential donors and conducting publicity efforts to raise awareness of the Fund. It will consider stepping up efforts in this area.
