Mr Gerald Giam Yean Song asked the Minister for Trade and Industry (a) what is the most recent assessment by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) on the commercial cooperation partnership between Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Malaysia Airlines; and (b) what aspects of commercial cooperation deals between airlines can be deemed anti-competitive by CCCS.
Mr Gan Kim Yong: On 10 May 2022, the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) conditionally cleared the proposed commercial cooperation partnership between Singapore Airlines Limited and Malaysia Airlines Berhad, subject to CCCS’ further assessment once air travel recovers. With the recovery in air travel, the Parties have submitted their updated proposal to CCCS on 24 March 2023, which is currently being reviewed.
