Assoc Prof Jamus Jerome Lim asked the Minister for Education what proportion of undergraduate students currently studying at (i) the National University of Singapore, (ii) Nanyang Technological University and (iii) all other autonomous universities are non-Singaporeans from high-income countries and receiving tuition grants or fee offsets for their studies.
Mr Chan Chun Sing: The Ministry of Education’s tuition grants are awarded based on an applicant’s merit, rather than their country of origin or its income level. All international students who receive the tuition grant are required to work in Singapore or in a Singapore-based company for at least three years upon graduation, as part of their service obligation. Eighty percent of international students at the autonomous universities receive tuition grants while the remainder are paying full fees.
