Ms He Ting Ru asked the Minister for Manpower whether any action has been taken against employers who make accusations against migrant domestic workers that do not result in charges or who make false accusations, including being barred from hiring migrant domestic workers in the future.
Dr Tan See Leng: All reports of potential wrongdoing by employers against their migrant domestic workers (MDWs) or MDWs against employers will be investigated by the Police and the Ministry of Manpower, for offences under the Penal Code and the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, respectively. The investigation outcome, including the decision whether to prosecute, depends on various factors, such as the sufficiency and strength of the evidence. When no enforcement action is taken against the accused, it does not necessarily mean that the complainant had made a false accusation.
There have been enforcement actions against individuals who knowingly provide false information.
