STUDIES ON QUANTIFIABLE EFFECTS OF DENSE URBAN LIVING ENVIRONMENT ON INDIVIDUALS’ PHYSIOLOGICAL STRESS RESPONSES

MP He Ting Ru

Ms He Ting Ru asked the Minister for National Development whether the Government has conducted any recent or ongoing studies to measure any quantifiable effects of a dense urban living environment on individuals’ physiological stress responses and, if so, to share the findings of these studies.

Mr Desmond Lee: The Urban Redevelopment Authority, the Housing and Development Board and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) Institute of Human Development and Potential have recently embarked on a three-year study on the impact of the urban environment on mental well-being, which will inform the way that we plan for a healthy living environment in Singapore.

This study will build on current research, such as the benefits of greenery on mental well-being. We will share the findings when ready.
