LIST OF RALLY SITES FOR UPCOMING GENERAL ELECTION

MP Pritam Singh

Mr Pritam Singh asked the Minister for Home Affairs (a) how many physical rally sites will be available for the upcoming General Election; (b) how soon will the list of sites be available; and (c) whether the Elections Department can release the list of physical rally sites when the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee submits its report to Parliament.

The Minister of State for Home Affairs (Ms Sun Xueling) (for the Minister for Home Affairs): The Police aim to designate two rally sites for each Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and one rally site for each Single Member Constituency (SMC). One rally site will also be designated for lunchtime rallies.

The list of rally sites will be made available at the end of nomination proceedings on Nomination Day. This is consistent with the approach taken for the Parliamentary General Elections with physical rallies held in 2011 and 2015.

Mr Speaker: Mr Singh.

Mr Pritam Singh (Aljunied): I thank the Minister of State. Can the Minister of State further expand on her reply to the first part of the question in regard to two sites per GRC and one site per SMC. When she says sites, what is the range of sites that the Minister of State is referring to – stadiums, open fields? Does she have some resolution on that?

Ms Sun Xueling: I thank the Member for his supplementary question. Indeed, the Police are assessing a range of sites. This can include open fields, stadiums and schools.
